Ultraviolet Light?

A beneficial effect of ultraviolet light on acne has been suspected from observations that acne in temperate climates usually improves during the summer months. Ultraviolet light induces peeling and also has an antibacterial effect. The other benefit may be one of tanning and camouflaging the acne.

If a sunlamp is used it should be placed at least 12 inches away from the face. Expose the three portions of the face, that is one side, the front and followed by the other side. Treatment should begin at 30 seconds and increased by 30 second intervals. The objective is to induce mild redness occurs, treatment should be stopped and begun after the reaction has settled at half the exposure time. Shining should be done three times a week.

Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light accelerates ageing of the skin and may cause skin cancers. Therefore, discuss with your dermatologist before you purchase a sunlamp. Fair-skinned individuals should avoid using this treatment.
